Arcaid project

We are committed to inclusion of opportunity at Cariad Pet Therapy as we are a Disability Confident Employer.

At Cariad Pet Food Bank we have provided opportunities for volunteering which have led to short term paid employment with support from the DWP's Access to Work programme.

Cariad Pet Therapy Community Interest Company has received funding from the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government to support people who have been out of work for 12 months or more (long term unemployed) or are neither employed nor unemployed (economically inactive) to enable them to return to a work environment, by:

  • offering and signposting meaningful volunteer placements and aspirational employment opportunities.

  • providing vocational training to raise skills, knowledge, and confidence.

  • utilising strengths and interests as the key foundations to see value in the workplace.

  • enabling a socially inclusive work environment that ensures equality for all with an emphasis on wellness and emotional health.

  • increasing interpersonal interactions where it is safe to do so.

  • reducing terms and labelling of people that act as a barrier to engagement.

The project will specifically help people who are over 25 and are in one or more of the following categories identified by the funding body as: aged 54+, from the BME community, are within a jobless household, are low skilled, are a carer or have a work limiting health condition. This use of this categorisation is to be referenced minimally only within the documentation of the project.

The project called Arcaid (an anagram of Cariad) is set to run from January – December 2022.

The project will provide 25 short term placements to help people move onto further volunteering, self-employment, or employment. The placements will be run from the soon to be newly named Arcaid Hub on City Road, Haverfordwest. The work elements will include the running of the established Cariad Pet Food Bank, operation of a clothing printing enterprise, and the making and selling of pet related merchandise.

The overarching benefits of the Arcaid project within Pembrokeshire include the delivering of economic growth and jobs, helping to build a thriving and prosperous economy, raising skills, helping people into work, improving the lives of people and communities and tackling poverty, and ensuring equal opportunities for all.
